Drew Barrymore has had a change of heart about her change of heart.
The talk show host had announced last week that her show The Drew Barrymore Show would be returning, in spite of the ongoing writers strike. Her plan was to return without writers and though she said she planned to abide by strike rules, it was an immediately unpopular decision among her colleagues in the industry. But Barrymore, in a tearful Instagram post, doubled down on her plans and offered a series of peculiar reasons why.
“I certainly couldn’t have expected this kind of attention,” she said, in the now-deleted video. “We aren’t gonna break rules, and we will be in compliance. I wanted to do this because as I said, this is bigger than me, and there are other people’s jobs on the line.”
But the actress has now decided to hit pause on the show’s return and on Instagram she posted: “I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over. I have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who works on the show and has made it what it is today. We really tried to find our way forward. And I truly hope for a resolution for the entire industry very soon.”
