Alternative pop singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Catbells recently unveiled her dreamy and captivating debut Wilderness EP.
The record is imbued with a hazy atmosphere of gently shining acoustic guitar lines and softly muffled drum shuffle.
Catbells wanders through the lovely music fields of dreampop and alternative folk, exuding a wistfully ruminative mood through her light, yet reflective vocal delivery.
The nostalgic and narrative lyrics of the three-song EP ground Catbells in a more bittersweet reality – one that is filled with love and loss.
Catbells was raised in the New England area, deep in the natural world, and her music is a connection to and channeling of those past locations and experiences.
She began playing piano and guitar at an early age and was a member of several bands before going solo under the moniker Catbells.
Her influences include the music of Nico from the 1960s and Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star from the 1990s. Catbells’ melancholic and musing vocals sound like they’re directly descended from this type of engaging singing style.
The title track from the EP was mixed by renowned producer Ali Chant (Aldous Harding, Perfume Genius, Soccer Mommy). Take a listen and look below at the accompanying animated music video:
