Touring behind their brand new album Somewhere Between The Power Lines And The Palm Trees, L.A.’s Dogstar dropped into the Capitol Theater the other night and they were awesome.
Led by singer/songwriter Bret Domrose and rounded out by Keanu Reeves (bass) and drummer Robert Mailhouse, the trio played with muscle and heart and they ripped through their three-album discography with undeniably kinetic energy.
It’s hard to believe they had a 20-year hiatus, because they came across like a well-oiled machine. Domrose’s voice is raw and powerful, Mailhouse hits hard and strong and Reeves plays with steady prowl.
This is one durable unit!
Standouts were the searing “Blonde,” “How The Story Ends” and the encore-opening “Lava Lamp.”
