David Lynch, the legendary, groundbreaking director of films like Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart and the co-creator of Twin Peaks, has died.
The Montana-born Lynch, who was 78, had been diagnosed with emphysema and revealed in a recent interview that not only did he have to rely on supplemental oxygen, his condition had left him housebound.
The L.A. fires proved to be an accelerant, and when Lynch was forced to evacuate his L.A. home his health rapidly declined.
The Academy Award-nominated director whose approach used elements of surrealism and Neo-noir, is considered to be one of the most important filmmakers of all-time.
His last feature-length film was 2006’s Inland Empire.
Lynch was also an author, artist and musician, releasing albums like Crazy Clown Time and The Big Dream.
Over the course of his career, Lynch worked with David Bowie, Roy Orbison, John Hurt, Anthony Hopkins, Sissy Spacek, Sting, Dennis Hopper, and Dean Stockwell.
