D’Angelo will be putting out new music for the first time since 2014.
Although the music in question is not the follow-up to 2014’s Black Messiah, the enigmatic, slightly reclusive and wildly talented R&B singer will be putting out a new single this Friday (Jan 12).
A collaboration with JAY-Z, the single is called “I Want You Forever” and it’s a track that’s set to appear on the JAY-Z-produced movie The Book Of Clarence.
The Virginia-born D’Angelo hasn’t been heard since he guested on Rapsody’s “Ibtihaj.” Prior to that, his only other post-Black Messiah appearance was on the Daniel Lanois-produced 2018 song “Unshaken.”
D’Angelo has said that he’s working on a follow-up to Black Messiah, but for an artist who has only put out three albums in close to thirty years, it’s impossible to predict when the new album might surface.
