A week after Coachella announced its star-studded line-up, ticket sales were decidedly lackluster.
By comparison, in 2023 tickets for the popular music and arts festival sold out in just a couple of days.
This year’s billing of No Doubt, Doja Cat, Lana Del Rey, Tyler, The Creator and Ice Spice, however, haven’t ignited much enthusiasm with ticket buyers and as of now, general admission tickets and VIP packages are readily available.
“I think the real trouble here comes down to simple economics,” an insider told SEM. “For a simple general admission pass, you’re talking about a $600 minimum. And if you’re inclined to go the VIP route for the whole weekend, that price just about doubles. In this economy, in terms of inflation, that presents a financial hardship for a lot of people; especially young people, who love to go to concerts, but simply don’t have the money.”
Another problem might boil down to the acts that have been booked. Along with the headliners, support acts include: J Balvin, Lil Yachgy, Coi Leray, Blxst, Peso Pluma and Lil Uzi Vert, among others. Although the range of the roster of musicians is impressive, many have suggested it’s lacking bona fide star-power. The prospect of a No Doubt reunion on paper might seem tantalizing, but to be fair, they were never that dynamic of a live band.
Additionally, Lana Del Rey, whose smoldering intensity is decidedly appealing, has a sonic attack that’s not suited for a huge outdoor stage, where high energy is key. Meanwhile, newcomer Ice Spice turned in some great live appearances in 2023 but is untested as a headliner.
