This year, thanks to a change.org online petition, Cliff Burton’s birthday has more significance than ever.
The late Metallica bassist who was killed in a 1986 bus crash in Sweden, will be honored with an official declaration that February 10 will be now be known as Cliff Burton Day in Castro Valley. The proclamation was processed and made official through the Alameda County’s Board of Supervisors.
This year marks what would have been Burton’s 56th birthday. The musician was technically the second bassist for Metallica and he played with the band from 1982-1986.
Metallica announced the news via Twitter, writing: “Thanks to all of the fans who got behind this initiative. We love that he remains so revered.”
