The Church Return With New Single “Another Century”

Written by:

In late June, The Church returned to the music realm with a surprise announcement on its official website and Facebook, and the sudden release of a new song via a lyrics video on YouTube.

The legendary veteran psychedelic rock/space rock band hailing from Australia has made a global impact with 25 studio albums to its name (so far), a fervent fanbase, rapturously raving critics, and many a band launched in its sonic image. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the members of The Church, through triumphs and travails, but they continue to create spellbinding, star-bound music.

The band’s last album, Futher/Deeper, arrived in 2014 with founding members Steve Kilbey and Peter Koppes on board, along with the later, and vital, addition of Tim Powles and new recruit Ian Haug (original member Marty Willson-Piper is MIA on this LP).

The Church has unveiled a lyrics video for “Another Century”, the lead single off the band’s next album. The renowned act has also embarked on a tour of North America.

Official statement from The Church’s website:

“June 26, 2017 – ARIA Hall of Fame members and Australian legends, The Church, are currently putting the finishing touches on the follow-up to their internationally critically acclaimed last album Further/Deeper (2014). The forthcoming (currently untitled) new release will be their 26th studio album.

The past several years have been wildly successful for the band with performances at Primavera Sound, SXSW, three North American tours and their first European tour in almost a decade. They now return with the brand new single “Another Century.”

“’Another Century’ is a romantic melodic stab of omnichord and guitars and quite unlike any past church song,” singer/bassist Steve Kilbey remarked. “The lyrics fell out of the sky very quickly and the music is dreamy and evocative of past futures.”

Recorded at Rancom St and Spacejunk III, the track was written by The Church (Kilbey, Koppes, Powles, Haug) and produced by the band along with Ted Howard.

The Church will return to the U.S. for a limited run this summer beginning on June 28th in Ann Arbor, MI. The tour will make stops in Cincinnati, Nashville, Chicago, Richmond, Ardmore and Pawling. The band will also perform at this year’s edition of Summerfest in Milwaukee.

Full details about the new album and future touring plans will be announced shortly.
