Bob Mould To Play With Seth Meyers’ 8G Band For Their Final Performance

Written by:

Late Night With Seth Meyers’ 8G Band will be bidding adieu this week and they’ve enlisted Bob Mould to help them say farewell.

Mould is set to sit in with the band this Thursday (August 22).

“In December 2014, I sat in with the 8G Band for an entire week,” Mould wrote in a statement. “Every day was an exciting experience — new songs to learn, a wide variety of interesting guests, and those super fresh and highly entertaining Seth monologues. I loved walking across the street to work each day, going to the NBC commissary for lunch, and hanging out with the band and crew. I’m humbled to be a small part of Thursday’s farewell to the 8G Band. It’s the end of an amazing run, it’s bittersweet for certain, and I’m hoping NBC will let us turn up extra loud!”

The 8G Band originally consisted of Fred Armisen, guitarist Seth Jabour, bassist Syd Butler, keyboardist Eli Janney, and drummer Kimberly Thompson. While Armisen’s appearances have turned into occasional cameos, Jabour, Butler, and Janney have been the core of the band for 11 seasons.

The band is being excised from Meyers’ program due to budgetary reasons.

In other Mould news, he’s endorsed presidential nominee Kamala Harris, whose running mate Tim Walz is a huge fan of Mould’s old band Hüsker Dü.

“It’s been quite a while since I’ve felt so good about the direction of the USA,” Mould says. “It’s amazing to see and feel this sudden change. The country is rallying around newfound energy and joy, the hope for a better and brighter future, and I’m ready to help the cause in any way I can.”
