Billy Joel has announced he’ll be releasing a new single this week (Feb 1).
Titled “Turn The Lights Back On,” the song marks the legendary singer/songwriter’s first pop offering since 1993 when his last album River Of Dreams was released.
With close to 200 million albums sold and his reputation as one of the all-time greats firmly cemented in popular culture, the Grammy Award-winning Joel certainly has nothing to prove. In fact, in a New Yorker profile written in the early oughts, Joel surveyed his prodigious back catalog and summed it up by saying, “I gave you enough.”
Thankfully, he has more to give.
In a statement describing the song, his record company Columbia Records wrote that, “…he delivers a classic Billy Joel-style tune, embodying the hallmarks of his signature sound and ushering in the next chapter of his story. In the lyrics, he asks, ‘Did I wait too long… to turn the lights back on?'”
It’s not clear if the song is a one-off or if there’s an album in the works.
