Stereo Embers has learned that Bad Brains guitarist Dr. Know is in the hospital on life support.
What is ailing the D.C.-born musician–whose real name is Gary Miller–has not been disclosed.
Bad Brains posted the following message on their Facebook page today: “The Bad Brains family ask that you please keep Gary (Dr. Know) Miller in your thoughts and prayers. The family respectfully ask that their privacy be honored during this time and very much appreciate all the great energy that is being sent their way.”
Founded in 1977 in Washington D.C., Bad Brains are credited by many as being one of the first hardcore bands. Fans of metal, reggae, jazz and hard rock, Bad Brains weren’t afraid to let their musical tastes be referenced in their work.
The 57-year old Miller is widely considered to be one of the most innovative and influential guitar players around. Although he’s primarily known for his work with the punk legends, he’s also played with Mos Def, Coheed and Cambria and the Deftones.
Bad Brains’ last album was 2012’s Into The Future.
