Stereo Embers has learned that the pioneering EDM DJ Avicii has died.
The Swedish producer was 28.
As of now, the cause of death is unknown.
A statement released by his publicist was issued this morning and it read: “The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time.”
Born Tim Bergling in Stockholm, Avicii was in Muscat, Oman at the time of his death.
A DJ with widespread global popularity, the Grammy-nominated Avicii also won a Billboard Music Award and two MTV Music Awards.
Avicii’s hits include: “Le7els,” ”The Days,” and “You Make Me.” In 2017, Levan Tsikurishvil’s documentary “Avicii: True Stories” chronicled Avicii’s life.
Avicii’s nom de plume was derived from a word that symbolized the lowest level of Buddhist hell.
