Augie March’s Adam Donovan Steps Away From The Band

Written by:

Augie March has revealed that original guitar player Adam Donovan has decided to leave the fold of the ARIA-award winning band.

In a statement, the members of Augie March wrote: “After nearly three decades of playing together, Adam has decided to step away from Augie March to focus on other pursuits. Adam has been part of the band since the very beginning, and his contribution has helped shape the music, the records, and the shared history we’re all so proud of. We love him, we thank him, and we wish him nothing but the best in whatever comes next. We are looking forward to celebrating Moo, You Bloody Choir’s 20th anniversary this year.”

A guitarist with tremendous range and versatility, Donovan is the kind of player capable of muscular riffs or those of introspective, jangling beauty. A key architect of the band’s sonic aesthetic, Donovan brings to mind everyone from Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead to Peter Buck of R.E.M.

Donovan attended college at the Northern Melbourne Institute Of TAFE alongside future founding members of Augie March David Williams and Edmondo Ammendola.

The legendary Australian outfit got their start back in 1996 in Shepparton and since then have gone from strength to strength, releasing albums like Sunset Studies, Strange Bird, Moo, You Bloody Choir and their most recent effort, 2024’s Malagrotta.

The band will be embarking on a tour in April to play Moo, You Bloody Choir front to back along with other tracks from their winning discography.

A replacement for Donovan has not been named.
