Actor Lee Sun-kyun has died.
The South Korean-born thespian who starred in the Oscar-winning 2019 film Parasite was 48.
Lee’s body was found inside his car in Seoul on Wednesday morning. His wife alerted authorities after she found what she believed to be a suicide note at the couple’s home. Lee had been under an investigation by police over illegal drug allegations. The actor was reportedly questioned by police three different times over the weekend, with the interrogations lasting close to a combined twenty hours.
Lee recently dropped out of his role in the upcoming thriller No Way Out.
Educated at the Korea National University Of Arts, Lee had a career that was filled with critical acclaim. His performances in shows like Coffee Prince, White Towers and Pasta garnered him widespread popularity at home.
But it was his turn in Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite that put him on the global map. He recently appeared in the Apple TV+ series Dr. Brain.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
