Moving Units Tip Their Post-Punk Hats To Joy Division

Written by:

Moving Units are set to embark on a mini-West Coast tour that will celebrate the songs of Joy Division.

The L.A.-based band’s new album Damage With Care is a twitchy blast of fiery post-punk and melodic Goth majesty that is quite easily one of the year’s finest. Not only that, but they’re preparing to put out a new record this October.

In the meantime, they’ve decided to salute one of their favorite bands and biggest influences.  Moving Units Present The Songs Of Joy Division, is a series of dates that will find the band tackling classics like “She’s Lost Control,” “Atmosphere,” and “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”

In a statement to the press, singer Blake Miller explained the inspiration for the tour and how Moving Units were preparing to tackle such classic material: “Our band was very inspired by Joy Division and similarly innovative post punk bands from that era like A Certain Ratio, PiL, Section 25 and The Fall. So when we approached the material we decided to learn the songs note for note and then apply our own musical brush strokes and accents to our versions.”

Starting in Santa Ana (July 22) and ending at The Echo in Los Angeles (Aug 6, 7), the shows will also feature original Moving Units material.
