This summer Aerosmith rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford and Ted Nugent singer Derek St. Holmes have reunited their long dormant side project for a tour with Whitesnake and a new album.
How dormant have Whitford/St. Holmes been?
Put it this way: the band hasn’t made a record since their 1981 self-titled debut.
In other words, pretty dormant.
But Whitford and St. Holmes haven’t exactly been idling on the sidelines–they’ve both been busy with their day jobs, so the delay is understandable.
The band’s new album is called Reunion–and it comes with a digitally remastered version of their debut—and the two legendary Les Paul-loving musicians played an intimate headlining gig the other night at the Fairfield Theatre Company in Connecticut and they were awesome.
Their new single “Shapes” is amazing and their other new songs (“Hot For You” and “Hell Is On Fire”) are blazing rockers–not only that, but the material from their debut sounds as fresh as ever. What’s really great is Whitford and St. Holmes have a breezy interplay and are clearly good friends. Their musical confederacy made their performance truly one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve seen in a long time.
