We all know Brett Nelson, just as we all know Built To Spill, the band in which multi-instrumentalist was an off-and-on bassist for years. What we didn’t know is that Nelson harbored a glowing bent for post-punkified new wave. Hence the revelation of this new track from his new band, Sick Wish. Utilizing a driving dark rhythmic vibe (including a bass line straight out of 1980), a shining multitude of slicing guitars, and all the sonic shadows you could possibly ask for, “Animals” ranks as the surprise of 2015 so far, and it’s really rather difficult to see it being eclipsed in that regard. Meanwhile, we wait with crazy bated breath for a full-length. Color us bedazzled.
