Stereo Embers’ Track of the Day: Pusha T’s “Lunch Money”

Written by:

Pusha T is nearing Danny Brown levels of being able to rap over pretty much anything with absolute confidence.

On My Name is My Name he rapped over nothing but brittle, dissonant guitar stabs and off-tempo drums (“Nosetalgia”), a Don Cannon beat that sounds more like a malfunctioning machine than a Southern banger (“Numbers on the Boards”), and a club beat that Kanye must have made while possessed by a demon (“Who I Am”).

The Louis Vuitton Don is also given production credits for Pusha’s latest out-of-nowhere single, “Lunch Money,” but I don’t believe it – this instrumental sounds like it came from another dimension.

But leave it to Pusha T to somehow find a pocket amidst all the buzzing, beeping, and bubbling, continuing to spit G shit like “Mami tryna land a Sinatra / She don’t fuck with n****s with Apple watches / Cause Rolex shopping is more excitin’ / Shout out to dopeboy lit sixteen swipers,” with no regard for the fact that the beat sounds like it was unearthed on the planet Klendathu.

Check out “Lunch Money” below, and be sure to look out for his upcoming single, which is reported to have a beat composed of a Rebecca Black sample, a fire alarm, and a digeridoo.
