Like any group of sanely insane music freaks, hearing of a project that involves eccentric and prolific pop magician Anton Barbeau turns our heads in a trice. But when it includes the likes of someone like inveterate indie pop goddess Allyson Seconds, whose 2009 debut Bag of Kittens (also produced by Barbeau), rife with effortlessly seductive textures of Californian post-hippie bliss, brought us to our swooning knees, well, we’re beyond intrigued. So it’s with no small amount of Whoa! that we present to you the first glimmer of the latest efforts from the, umm, second Seconds/Barbeau partnership, the title track from the October-released album Little World. Kissed by richer production values and an equivalent sense of sonic daring while sustaining that same rousing pop joy that got our attention in the first place, we’d say that this track offers a glimpse of the album entire’s overall potential but since we’ve heard all of Little World we can assure you that said glimpse indeed represents but the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Like we here at SEM keep saying, musically we live in a gilded age, with “Little World” representing as strong an example as could be asked for. Have a listen, we dare you to disagree.
