Pavement have just taken back control of their Facebook page and there’s been a recent flurry of activity on that page ever since.
On April 9, Scott Kannberg, posting under his Pavement sobriquet Spiral Stairs wrote the following message: “hi pavement fans… spiral here. we’ve taken back our page after all these years… thanks to the fine folks at matador. and thanks to you for supporting us! there’s some great news coming soon… in the meantime, we will be randomly posting stuff from the archive.”
And, it turns out, the legendary band from Stockton, California has quite an extensive archive.
Pictures of t-shirts, equipment, tour programs and magnets have begun to populate the page, leading many to believe that the band may indeed be circling a reformation.
Although they broke up in 1999, Pavement did reform for a successful, albeit brief, tour back in 2009.
Singer Stephen Malkmus hasn’t commented on any of this, however, he did suggest via Twitter that all the activity may very well be easy to explain:”Maybe there’s some anniversary or terror twilight re issue?” he tweeted.
Malkmus reportedly shot down a Pavement reunion as recently as February of this year, however, that may have been a red herring.
Kannberg wrote: “As I understand it, live perfs are ruled out for ’15 but not ’16, beyond. Deep cuts will feature.”
