A lot of news has just surfaced from the Grant Lee Phillips camp.
The singer/songwriter’s new single “Closer Tonight,” which is out now, is heralding the September 5th release of his new album In The Hour Of Dust.
Of the new album, which will be out on Yep Roc and pressed on clear golden smoke vinyl, Phillips writes: “At last, I can share the good news. That intoxicating scent on the wind is the note of hot vinyl being pressed into LPs. My new album, In the Hour of Dust, will be released on September 5th on Yep Roc Records. It seems like an eternity since my last one. The world has sped up in dizzying ways. Here’s hoping these songs might land on your ears, bring some comfort, some inspiration, make your vacuuming a little less dreary.”
The Stockton-born Phillips, whose last album was 2022’s All That You Can Dream, shares that the title of his new record came from a very specific origin, writing: “The title was inspired by a painting from India, discovered while wandering the Norton Simon Art Museum in Pasadena, CA. A depiction of that moment of the day when the cows are led back home, when they kick up the dust; a cue to prepare the lamps. Night is about to fall.”
The album features drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Jennifer Condos and pianist Patrick Warren.
Phillips will be heading out on a U.S. and UK tour in the fall that will extend to the winter with more shows to be added.
