Ferocious Guitar Flex: Sabatta’s “Take You There”

Written by:

2024 may be young as far years go, but it may very well already have its best instrumental track.

Taken from Sabatta’s new album How To Get Even, “Take You There” is a riff heavy workout that’s full of bluesy bliss and pure hard rock groove.

Led by the Essex-raised guitarist Yinka Oyewole, Sabatta play a blistering blend of burning post-punk, jagged soul and indie funk. On “Take You There,” as soon as the song’s nimble opening gives way, the guitar takes over and Oyewole steps in with bona fide melodic muscle. At 1:32 Oyewole lets loose, bringing to mind everyone from Eddie Van Halen to Gary Moore.

“‘Take You There’ is an “extraterrestrial blues riff fest, a 2-minute instrumental cosmic slop with furious guitar antics,” Oyewole tells SEM. “I wanted this album to be authentic from start to finish to the spirit of Sabatta. Anyone who’s seen Sabatta live knows there’ll be points in the show, sometimes at the start and elsewhere in the set where I just left to fly on the guitar – I improvise and basically let the spirit take me and let the guitar howl, growl and scream – outside of song. This single is kind of like henresing that energy for 2 mins. If you love this genre of music, you’ll love this tune!”

Produced and mixed by Oyewole and recorded by Alex Franklinos at Shrunken Heads Studio (King Krule, Ghostpoet, Songdog, Domino Records) How To Get Even was mastered at London’s EC Mastering (Sony, Universal, BBC).
