Dark Side Of The Mule Live In New Jersey

Written by:

It was another perfect summer evening for an outdoor concert and this week it was one my all time favorite bands Gov’t Mule and their Dark  Side of the Mule Tour at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ.

To help commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s seminal album Dark Side of the Moon, the band decided to do a final Dark Side of the Mule tour and revisit Pink Floyd’s album as well as other cuts from Floyd’s catalog.

The set started off with the Mule doing an hour of their songs – Mule consists of Warren Haynes on guitar and vocals, Matt Abts on drums, Danny Louis on keyboards, and new bassist Kevin Scott who replaced their bass player of 15 years Jorgen Carlsson.  Scott plays like he was born to be in Mule and his playing is reminiscent  of the late, great founding  bass player Allen Woody.  In short, he kicks ass!

For the Floyd set the band was joined by extremely talented multi-instrumentalist Jackie Greene who played both guitar and keyboards, Ron Holloway on Saxophone, along with Machon Taylor and Sophia Ramos on backing vocals.
