Bauhaus Roar Back With Brand New Single “Drink The New Wine”

Written by:

Breaking a fourteen-year drought of new music, Goth legends Bauhaus have released a brand new single.

Titled “Drink The New Wine,” the track is lashing blend of stinging post-punk bliss and howling goth majesty. Filled with ghostly breakdowns, inventive percussive fills and ageless vocals, it finds the band sounding as fresh as ever.

The creation of the new single provided an artistic challenge for the band’s four members, as they decided to employ the “exquisite corpse” method, which is rooted in the Surrealist movement and pays homage to the 1925 project wherein artists André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Jacques Prévert, and Yves Tanguy collaborated on a “Cadavre exquis.”

In a statement,  Bauhaus reflected on the artists’ collaboration, saying: “[It] included words which when strung together make up the sentence, ‘Le cadaver exquisite boar le vin nouveau’ (‘The exquisite corpse will drink the new wine’).”

Recorded in 2021 during lockdown, the four members of Bauhaus (Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, David J. and Kevin Haskins) started their own project by sharing audio files over a lone pre-recorded beat that was provided by drummer Kevin Haskins. Staying true to the surrealist methodology, the members didn’t allow themselves to hear what the others had done. Keeping that in mind, the final result was as much a surprise to the band as it is to the listener.
